I tried to write something about Star Wars and watching with my dad, and I realized that a lot, if not all, my references are going to resonate with only a few. I now know and speak with people who understand the name “Star Wars” the way most now understand the words “World War 2.” It is understood that something happened and at the time was significant, but it’s sort of like understanding that dinosaurs existed, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
I am not in any way bashing anyone about this. In fact, I realize it goes both ways. Not too long ago, someone looked at me dumbfounded that I didn’t know who “Bad Bunny” was and gave me the look of someone thinking I clearly understood that two plus two was four but said five out loud.
But here’s the thing: the time between the end of WW2 and the opening of Star Wars is shorter than the years since the opening of Star Wars and you reading this.
